Job Title: Instrument Mechanician - Mining Industry

Location: Phalaborwa

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Instrument Mechanician for our mining operations in Phalaborwa. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting all instrumentation equipment, systems, and controls used in our mining operations. The Instrument Mechanician will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of critical equipment, ultimately contributing to the overall success of our mining operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on a variety of instrumentation equipment used in mining operations, including but not limited to:
- Pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters
- Control valves and actuators
- Programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Distributed control systems (DCS)
- Electrical control panels

2. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with instrumentation equipment utilizing various tools, equipment, and techniques to identify and resolve problems efficiently.

3. Collaborate with other maintenance and operational staff to ensure proper coordination, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of instrumentation equipment.

4. Conduct regular inspections and functional tests to identify potential issues or areas for improvement in equipment performance and reliability.

5. Develop and maintain comprehensive records, logs, and reports on equipment maintenance, repairs, and performance metrics, adhering to relevant industry standards and regulations.

6. Participate in the planning and implementation of preventive maintenance programs, ensuring timely execution to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.

7. Assist in the procurement of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for maintaining instrumentation systems, ensuring adequate inventory levels are maintained.

8. Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices related to mining instrumentation systems, and propose innovative solutions for continuous improvement.

9. Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Trade Test Certificate as a qualified Instrument Mechanician.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working as an Instrument Mechanician within the mining industry, preferably in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation systems, electrical circuits, and control systems utilized in mining operations.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Solid understanding of relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, when required.
